I was part of a conference at the Lama Foundation in the mountains above Taos, New Mexico. At one point, I was invited to jam with three musicians from India. I sat and listened for the first hour - mainly tuning the instrument and searching for a way to respond to the information I was receiving. What happened next surprised all of us as the banjo slowly began to blend within that context seamlessly. Using bends and slides, microtonal notes and interesting intervals began to magically appear as did smiles all around. This is where the seeds for this composition were planted.
